Oxford has been a university town since the middle of the 13th century.  The richly varied architecture of its colleges with their quadrangles (quads), turrets and towers can best be viewed in the afternoons (but all day around Christmas, Easter and the end of summer term - July to September). A visit to one or more of the following colleges is highly recommended. 

There follows a description of Balliol, Christchurch, Corpus Christi, Exeter, Magdelen, Merton, New, Queens, Trinity and University colleges. Twenty-three other colleges with their locations are also listed.

Under the heading Main Places of Interest, a further ten locations are described, including the Ashmolean Museum, Bodleian Library, Oxford Cathedral and the Radcliffe Camera.
