Windsor and Eton are linked by a pedestrianised bridge spanning a beautiful stretch of the River Thames.  The castle strategically positioned on steeply rising ground dominates the town and has done so for over 900 years.

WINDSOR CASTLE (E5).  Originally built in 1070 by William the Conqueror, Windsor Castle has been greatly altered through the ages.  Indeed the early castle was almost certainly built of wood, and was used as a hunting lodge by the Norman Kings.  It was not until 1827 in the reign of George IV that the castle resembled today's appearance.  The official residence of her Majesty the Queen now proudly claims to be the largest and oldest working castle in the world.

(More descriptive text appears on the map about the Castle, and also about Eton College, Eton High Street, the Guildhall, Frogmore House and Legoland Windsor).

The map lists other places in the towns which can be visited, giving the map location in each case.  Below are a few samples of the types of places shown;  the actual list is much more extensive. The usual alphabetical street index is published next to the map itself.
